Ballet for girls at Happy Chappies in Fintas begins its second session starting March 2. Taught by well-known ballet mistress, Yulia Svechnikova, ballet helps girls learn poise, grace, self discipline and focus. Call or visit Happy Chappies in Fintas, Block 4, Street 1, Villa 51. Telephone: 6700-4777 (8am-2pm) Email: principal@happy-chappies.com I am looking for solutions to a shared bedroom for the girls. Love the idea of the bunkbeds with a small stairwell instead of a ladder. I also like turning the stairwell into a storage area. But I would like to see other ideas for the desk and study area that would create separate, individual spaces for two kids...I will update this with more photos as I find them. I've written before about the amazing Remal Sand Sculpture festival at the Mishref Fairgrounds. We finally visited this past weekend and I was blown away by the scale and diversity of the sculptures. There are dozens of sculptures, all built to represent various stories from the famous book, Elf Layla wa Layla (1001 Nights). I tried to prepare my girls by reading them a few bits from 1001 Nights and watching Aladdin but they didn't really get it and were impressed more by the freedom to roam through the park than any story or even the sculptures. They totally and irreversibly fell in love with the light trees and now I have to figure out a way to replicate them for their birthday parties! It really is a must-see for the whole family. If you go, be aware that entrance is KD 3, except for children under 3 which are free. The P2BK exhibit is free (its right next to the sand park). Also there are amazing light shows and events in the evenings and on weekends. Be prepared for crowds, parking far away and walking a lot. I would say that if you have younger kids, take a stroller and bottles of water. Map The ladies of Khayt Group are holding an exhibition to celebrate the National and Liberation Day holidays in Kuwait. Many of the members created items for the Colors & Meaning competition and winners were chosen for three categories: creativity, technique and design. The exhibition will run through Monday at Sadu House and can be visited in the mornings (9-noon) and in the evenings (5-7pm). Don't miss it. Khayt is a local community crochet group open to women of all nationalities that holds weekly workshops, offers lectures and courses and also charity projects including making and collecting hats for children in the NBK Hospital, Kuwait's orphanage and Syrian refugee children in Jordan and Turkey. A few fun events happening this weekend: Q8 Books is filming a commercial about volunteering on Friday at the shop in Bayt Lothan and looking for child actors. The Lego Movie is in theaters now. P2BK and the Remal Sand Sculpture fest at the Mishref Fairgrounds is open to the public. BPH Nursery will have a booth for parents and children at the Liberation Village at AUK (9-11 Feb). And don't miss the Khayt Group National & Liberation Days Exhibition at Sadu House on Saturday, Feb 8 from 9-12pm. Shakshooka market will be held today at the Shuwaikh Market - a new lovely shopping space in Industrial Shuwaikh. The market will run from 6-8pm and you can find fresh veggies and homemade artisanal products like fresh baked breads, jams, jellies and more there. Be sure to bring your own bags and small change. Actually this section of Industrial Shuwaikh is slowly being gentrified with a collection of boutique shopping complexes and cafes, galleries and sports academies. Its worth checking out. (Visit Ilsul6ana's blog for a very useful map.) Thanks to finding popsicle sticks at the Teacher's Cellar, we were able to have popsicle crafting fun over the weekend. I wanted to try and make specific crafts but the girls wanted to create their own ideas so it turned into a bit of popsicle stick free play. I started to get a bit frustrated. Sometimes I have a very specific idea in my head of where I want them to go and the project to complete but they just want to play. So I had to stop myself and say, ma laish' and just go with the flow. Kindergirl really got into it and made three or four different things - none of which I had imagined and so it was a great opportunity to let her run with her imagination. Meanwhile our two year old matched the sticks color by color for a bit before moving on to trying to paint the dog's nails white with glue. |
