Khayt Group's Monday workshop this week will teach how to join hexagons. You will need to have more than two hexagons in order to learn how to join them, as well as hook and yarn in the color of your choice for joining. Workshop will be held from 5-7pm in Sadu House on the Gulf Road (next to the Kuwait National Museum). If you've never made a hexagon before, try this quick tutorial: Easy guide to crochet a hexagon. Great news moms! The Sultan Center will now deliver groceries and more to your doorstep. You can call to place and order and they will be delivered by 7pm and you can even pay with K-Net. Not sure if you can use your Sultan Card to earn points but probably and if you order be sure to ask. I haven't tried the service yet but am delighted to have the option. I love the idea of having an extra hour or two for family time on the weekends. Telephone: 2226-4000 or SMS message 9760-5370 Update: I just spoke with The Sultan Center and confirmed the service. Orders should be KD 20 or more. I love this very creative idea for homemade scented playdough from Expatfamilyq8. Recipe: 1 cup flour, half cup salt, 2 tsp cream of tartar and 1/3 sachet of Tang (Use different flavors to create balls of different scents like mango, strawberry, lemon, orange, etc). Mix in a saucepan adding 1 cup of water and 1 tbsp of oil and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes or until mixture forms a ball, stirring frequently. Let cool before use. Thank you ExpatfamilyQ8 for sharing. Moms check out her blog for lots of fun ideas for simple play, crafts, recipes, outings and great lunchbox ideas. Shift: Kuwait Film Night for Charity will be held February 4-5 at the Musical Fountain in Kuwait City (next to Discovery Mall and the Ice Skating Rink.) Short films by local directors will be shown. Tickets are KD 5 and can be purchased at Bayt Lothan. All proceeds will benefit the Kuwait Orphanage. Am thinking this would make a great date night. A mom in Kuwait sent me this chart ... its a quick and easy way to take basic ingredients and create a variety of dishes. I love the idea and like anything that makes cooking more creative and easy. For the recipes that call for red or white wine, I use chicken or vegetable stock and then add a touch of lemon juice if it needs acid. Source: http://freeintenyears.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/realgood-cheap-food.jpeg Last weekend we had a late snack at McDonald's on Salem al Mubarak Street (next to Johnny Rockets) and I saw this shop next to it called City Max. It seemed to be chocked full of fun stuff so I went inside. Its a bargain shop with a range of trinkets, knick knacks and every day household supplies. There are dishes and cups, storage bins and hair clips, miniature lamps and prayer beads, istakana sets, teapots, clocks, bags, socks, markers, toys and much more. I am always looking out for places that have crafting supplies or other cool stuff but this is mostly household items.
It sort of reminded me of Daiso (see review here) but without the Japanese vibe. I forgot to check the store hours but guess they are open evenings and weekends. One of the world's largest sand sculpture parks will open in Kuwait in January 2014 as part of the P2BK exhibition. There will be a maze for kids, lots of sculptures and much more. Sign up for the KMG Newsletter today to see exclusive photos and learn more about it. (And plan to take the kids to be amazed!) Update: Several moms have asked for the article on the Sand Sculpture park that will be part of the P2BK event in Mishref. I don't yet have the exact dates of when it will be open to the public (I've seen late Jan or early Feb). If you would like to read our December interview with one of the sculptors published in the KMG Newsletter, email me at kuwaitmoms@gmail.com. Also be sure to sign up for future newsletters for updates. Seriously moms shape the minds of the next generation. We succor and protect, we develop and grow. We create. What more needs to be said than that? Books are a passion of mine and with my older daughter learning to read, I'm doing my best to help encourage her by providing a variety of books. We like discovering new bookshops (or finding old ones I'd forgotten about or haven't visited in a while).
Saeed & Samir is one of the oldest English-language bookstores in Kuwait. They sell a lot of educational books, dictionaries, learning English for kids, encyclopedias for kids as well as books for moms on crochet, knitting, sewing, cooking, yoga, pregnancy and more. They also have a small selection of educational games and puzzles for kids (I couldn't resist and got two of the magnetic doll dress up puzzles for the girls - KD 4 each - and a giant ABC puzzle as well.). There are wooden cakes, baking sets, car & truck sets and other toys for the kids. The prices are comparable for other new bookstores in Kuwait and the toy/puzzle prices were very affordable and made from quality materials. Saeed & Samir is located in the basement of Laila Gallery (on Salem Al Mubarak Street, across from Sultan Center). Telephone: 2572-1168 Store Hours Sunday - Thursday: 9am-1pm and 5pm-10pm Friday: 12:30pm-4:30pm Saturday: 5pm-10pm Carnival al-Khayal is a creative problem-solving workshop involving teams of more than 100 high school students from American and British schools in Kuwait.
