Lovely playgrounds in neglected park in Sabah al Salem, Kuwait. One of our favorite weekend activities is to explore parks and green spaces in Kuwait. We went this weekend to a large park in Sabah al Salem, its literally the size of a city block. I was completely heartbroken, however, to find that the park has been largely neglected and despite having four separate playgrounds that are all in good shape and good quality, the park is an absolute mess.
There were a few other visitors while we were there but like us kept to the grass and the playgrounds. The place is completely overgrown. Weeds have sprouted in the sidewalks and the dirt areas around the playgrounds, the grass and bushes are completely overgrown and out of hand, benches are broken and left lying on their sides and of course trash is strewn everywhere and there were lots and lots of bugs. I was ok with just exploring until a small beetle crawled over my sneaker - that's when we had to leave!
What a shame to have such a large, beautiful and green space in Kuwait but not to take care of it. I feel bad for the residents of Sabah al Salem who could use this park which is sitting there completely wasted. Its located in Block 8, First Street but I would warn anyone who isn't into insects from visiting.
